The Project Snapshot
Serving as a vital hub for the community, the Esquimalt Nation Health and Wellness Centre required a landscape environment that deeply respected its cultural significance and prioritized long-term resilience. The team at Veenstra Consulting was tasked with delivering a highly functional public realm to anchor the facility's striking architecture. Our approach focused on establishing a serene, grounding arrival experience, utilizing natural materials and extensive softscaping to create a setting that promotes healing, connection, and ease of circulation for all visitors.
We executed a comprehensive site installation beginning with precise custom masonry work, forming a strong, durable foundation for the structural timber column footings and natural stone signage. To seamlessly blend the institutional scale with the natural environment, our crews implemented a massive softscaping program featuring an extensive volume of mature trees and resilient shrubs. Finished with heavy bark mulch beds and widespread grass seeding, the completed landscape delivers a calming, highly accessible outdoor space that perfectly reflects the community-focused mission of the Centre.
